Meet the President and CEO, Dr. Naureen Shaikh

Dr. Shaikh founded Mobile Medical Team International (MMTI) in 2006. MMTI a public charity providing medical education and relief to underserved populations internationally. Naureen transitioned from treating and curing disease 1 patient at a time to: 60,000 at a time in the U.S. programs (Bay Area), 250,000 in Tanzania’s fastest growing urban slum with a “net zero” health campus under development and to 2 Million through the Diffusion medical education portal with our Facebook/ Internet.org partner.  She is a global leader in human centered design and a regular participant at innovation, technology and global health forums.

Dr. Shaikh, the leadership team, and the board are exclusively focused on building health services and tools for those who serve underserved populations. Through Dr. Shaikh’s vision and leadership, Mobile Medical Team International has a radically collaborative culture with three programs scaled to deliver medical help and education on four continents.

  • In the past three years alone, the Team’s tools and programs serve 2 million users in 3 years through strong partnerships which include Internet.org/ Facebook and Rotary International.
  • Since 2006, MMTI has grown, financially, between 30% and 50% each year.
  • Dr. Shaikh speaks across the world on effective health interventions and the need to employ technology for change. She also actively participates in and leverages the network at Rotary International.

At the Tanzania clinic, Dr. Shaikh treats a young patient.Some of MMTI’s projects, past and present:

  • A hospital clinic in Africa
  • Support missions after Pakistan’s earthquake and flood disasters
  • Creation of medical education games targeting malnutrition, infectious disease and family planning for four continents
  • Developing an international financial transparency web-portal for institutions and donors involved in humanitarian relief
  • Therapeutic childcare for traumatized children
  • Home therapy for uninsured disabled children and adults.

She earned her MD from Rush College of Medicine in Chicago, and graduated from Tufts University Family Practice Program in Boston where she did additional training in Complementary Medicine. Dr. Shaikh received her fellowship form the AAFP. She completed a miniMBA program through the SBA Interise program. She published research and received teaching awards from Tufts University, the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan, and the University of California San Francisco and Stanford. Dr. Shaikh created the San Francisco Bay Area’s first integrative health Center accepting of all insurance and having cured 1500 patients “Syndrome X” patients with lifestyle modification practices to normal blood pressure, lipids and glycohemoglobin for over one year without medications. Dr Shaikh is involved in launching the West Coast Patient Integrating Precision Medicine Center.  She is a member of Rotary International active in Global Grant Projects.  Receiving local and national awards, Naureen is public speaker and featured on national radio and in newspapers.tznianhigres-273
